The Chalet APASSION ‘Potager’

Taking advantage of the warmer March weather here in Samoëns, in the French Alps, we took to the garden in order to build a “potager” or veg patch, so that Vicky has the freshest products for her summer menu. The Samoëns locals, know as ‘septimontains’ after the surrounding landscape, take enormous pride in their potagers, so the pressure is on!
Having constructed the raised bed, and prepared the soil, we took delivery of some well rotted ‘fumier ancien’ from a local farmer who arrived on his tractor!  We are now well on our way to having a potager to be proud of!

We managed to get a few seeds in the ground before the late season snow arrived across the Grand Massif (another 40cm fell last night at 2500m).  We’re holding off from further planting until the weather improves.  How frustrating, especially as we’ve also just had a special delivery of seed potatoes arrive from the UK, courtesy of an enthusiastic neighbour!
